Hello! I’m Dr. Beth. I’ve spent my whole life working with kids. If you want to find me in a group, you can find me teaching undergrads at Lubbock Christian University. I love the enthusiasm of students and the provocative discussions they develop in a classroom.
If you want to find me when I’m working with kids, I might be listening to the story of a traumatized child at the Texas Boys Ranch or explaining the process of foster care or adoption to an anxious parent. Occasionally (more frequently than I want to be) you will find me on the witness stand providing an expert opinion about a traumatized children. When I manage to leave the country, you will find me in Kenya working with Kenya Widows and Orphans. I’m part of a group who are training caregivers how to work with traumatized children.
Clearly, I don’t like boredom. I love children and have committed my time and energy to making sure that children are safe. I love playing with children. Watching children engage in activities. I even love reading research about how to help children. Anything having to do with children and I’m there.
A few of you might feel better if you know about my titles, training, and credentials. So here it goes. In regards to teaching. I am a Professor of Psychology at Lubbock Christian University, a visiting lecturer in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Harding University and was previously a Professor of Pediatrics at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.
I am a licensed professional counselor, an approved supervisor for licensed professional counselors, and a certified school counselor. I’ve used those credentials to work with abused and traumatized children for more than 25 years as a counselor. I’ve also lived with foster and adoptive children in my home for most of those 25 years.
I have a website because I want to help parents learn how to keep their children safe. That’s the whole story . . . so far.
